A top our hill here in Danville Ca, Rx Cocker Spaniels functions as a small hobby kennel for the sport  of
competing in the show ring, and providing the occasional family pet, to a loving PET home.

Breeder:  Ernie Domondon

For
as long as I can remember, I have always experienced the unconditional love of our family
dogs.  A favorite family dog when I was young was our home bred chocolate lab named Bruno,
I have many memories of him and I on our free afternoons in the fields and creeks of the then
rural  Livermore Valley.   A smart and lovable companion for me but when given the choice he
was so dedicated to my father.

My love for the cockers spaniel originated with a neighbor's red cocker mix puppy. With that
sadful cocker expression "Puppy" was consistently in our yard to greet me when I'd arrive
home from school.  Upon graduation from College, my reward to myself was to purchase a
purebred Cocker Spaniel.  My search led me to a black female from the typical newspaper ad
claiming "champion sired" by a son of an old time favorite of mine Ch. Frandees Top Brass.
Although this girl never stepped into the show ring due to an off bite, it was through this
special girl that I acquired the bug to have a show dog. I will be forever grateful for the
friendships gained in the early years of my cocker experience.  Many of whom are no longer
with us, the knowledge shared have contributed to be what Rx Cockers is today.

The breed type of Bobwin Kennels in the 70's seemed to catch my eye. With my science and
research background, I admired Winnie Vick for her determination to research her breeding in
ways that raised eyebrows of other breeders of that era. Her foresight set the basis for many
of the top winning kennels who brought her  producing lines into their pedigrees.

My start originated with a black bitch from top breeder Cathrine Ashley - breeder of the top
producer Ch. Bobwins Sir Ashley. At 6 mos of age, Cathy allowed the pick bitch of her litter to
come out to California.  Ashley's Victoria was a sound eastern style bitch, beautiful in all
aspects a breeder could judge of a 6 mos old puppy. Soon to be proven , she took a
Sweepstakes Black Variety Award her first showing at the San Joaquin CSC specialty. With the
sudden loss of Cathy Ashley, little did we know that Vicki would be the last representation of
Ashley breeding in the show ring.  The chase for the "final major" proved long and useless
amongst Vicky's sporty California style competition. Ashley's Victoria brought me the breed
type of the eastern pedigrees behind her, but she lacked the "leg" or size of the California girls
who bypassed her for the wins.   My first inclination was to take this pretty headed, typey
bitch to a California dog, Sporty, up on leg, with a strong rear assembly. Ch. Tomparks Little
Rock was all that and the product of strong Bobwin breeding. Owned by my good friend
Wanda Towne, it was a joy to promote the offspring of a breeding we so loved.

How great an experience, to be so new in the breed, to have in my first litter, my pick puppy,
to go Winners Bitch at ASC. A breeder's dream come true. I will be forever grateful to a young
Greg Anderson who saw the quality in my young puppy to take her to this GREAT win. BISS
CH Rx Crystal Elegance went on to many other great wins with her handlers Ian Brotchie, her
Canadian championship with Vi Nielson, and her ASC weekend Best Opp to Best in Show with
Marcelo Chagas. Breedings for Rx continued the next generation through Krystal and her
sister Tiffany, Ch. Rx for your Eyes Only. Introducing breedings to Palm Hills Krugerand,
Piner's Enough is Enough, and Palm Hill CaroBu's Solid Gold the Rx prefix continued to be
present in the ring.

After a short hiatus from breeding, and having an itch to be winning in the ring again. I was
approached by my good friends Bryon & Marie Santos to have my pick of any pup from their
litter. Knowing my favor for buffs, it was hands down that I would take the buff girl - sight
unseen. My first evaluation of the litter, found me prejudice for the buff girl, but my eye for
the breed led me to ask for the black girl who was to become  Sherwood's Black Diamond. A
Trader daughter, and a Little Rock great grand daughter-  Liz's pedigree is a tribute to the
dedication of my group of closest friends. With this website it is my pleasure to present the
many dogs of Rx and Sherwood of recent years -  the prodigy of this special girl who is our
reminder of my great FRIENDSHIPS of the past 30 years of RX.

A pharmacist by profession, The Rx prefix was easy to come by.

As a small scale hobby breeder / exhibitor. On the average I have bred and whelped a litter
around every 20 months primarily to have something to take into the show ring.   Our puppies
are raised and socialized in a family environment.

Over the years not all my puppies have made it into the show ring.  The families who were
blessed with the ownership of an Rx cocker spaniel have all cherished long lives of well
tempered and dedicated companions.  I take great pride in knowing that my produce are
positive representatives of OUR Breed as both Show and Pet.

Since 1979 members of the Rx gang have been represented in the show ring.   My thanks  to
those handlers and owners who over the years  have exhibited an RX dog and taken them
over   the Winner's marker. I invite my site visitors to take the time to read about those dogs
who are most special to us.

My involvement in our breed continues, as an active member for the two northern California
breed clubs -
Mission Valley Cocker Spaniel Club and Bay Cities Cocker Spaniel Club.  As show
chairman for the two clubs, my personal goal has been to preserve the atmosphere and style of our
Specialty shows of the past - a media for our breeders to bring out OUR BEST to compete making that win
so much more SPECIAL over the weekend All breed competition.    Our clubs host 2 Specialty weekends
each year (four shows), which attract exhibitors from many states west of the Mississippi.

Our Clubs are major supporters of the Northern California Cocker Spaniel RESCUE.

I am also a member of The American Spaniel Club, our parent club, responsible for establishing the
BREED STANDARD by which our dogs are judged.  As members we choose to abide by our clubs
"Breeder's Ethics" and incorporate them into my own personal breeding practice.  If you are looking for a
cocker spaniel puppy,  look for breeders who are members in good standing, and support  our mission in
an effort to better the health of our favorite breed of dog.

Along with my wife Diane and daughter Jennifer, we enjoy the dogs we have bred over the
years.
