For Your Information
Support a fellow Cocker Spaniel Breeder and their personal business in Canada.  Contact
Donna Ammon or Doug Carter for your dog supply needs. Doug has a huge inventory of
Quality shears and grooming equipment including the new 44/20 thinnig shears we find in
every cocker owner's tack box.  The web site has great pictures and descriptions of all the
items we cocker owners may need.   They accept all major credit cards and most orders
are shipped out the next day  Click on the yellow link below
Liz - currently gets NUTRO ULTRA Senior formula.
Bleu, Nikki & Monika- currently get NUTRO ULTRA Weight management
formula.
Jackson, Toby & Emma were raised on Solid Gold puppy

the Ricky x Monika pups are currently being fed NUTRO ULTRA puppy
formula.  Started off on the Solid Gold puppy,,  I switched to the Ultra and
noticed a desired change in the texture of their coats, along with a more firm
stool.

Dog Crate
Top of the Line  and used by us breeders are the  16
x 23  McKee Aluminum crates for travel.  As the
company is no longer in business, you can check on
Ebay or keep your ears open for Doggie people who
are retiring or getting out of dogs,,, For my Pet
homes,,, I would recommend the #200 Vari Kennel
(brand) of plastic dog crates.

There are other brands available, but the Quality and
design of the Vari-Kennel is most suitable for travel
and house  training methods.  You will need a wire
floor bottom to keep your young puppy from walking in
any mess he may leave in his Crate.  Follow the link to
TruLove Cocker spaniels as they make custom sizes

www.truluvcockers. com
#100 Vari-Kennel (12"WX17"LX1"H)   $12
#200 Vari-Kennel (15"WX22"LX2"H)   $17.50
#300 Vari-Kennel (16"WX26"LX2"H)   $21.00
#Standard Bathtub Floors (16"WX44"LX2"H)  $33.50

Custom sizes available on request.  Prices do not
include shipping.  Shipping will be by UPS and
averages $6-8 (of course more for larger floors).

you will be looking for #236 -10   the 36 x 36 by
30inches high,, with the 1 inch square mesh floors.

For those of you who have seen my set-up here at
home, I use the 3x3 puppy expens, often called
Cocker expens,,   I would HIGHLY recommend that
you get one of these to house the dog either indoors
or on your shaded patio,, for those times when you
just have to leave the dog home ALONE giving you he
Peace of Mind knowing that your dogs are SAFE at
home without you. I recommend shopping the Internet
(Midwesthome metals)

Food  & Water dishes
Most breeders, myself included, prefer to use the
Stainless steel bowls  (1 quart size)
I like to use the stainless steel  (1 quart) bucket and
attach it to  side of the expen with a double sided slide
bolt clamp.

Collar and Leash
You will be surprised by how often you will have to
shop for a dog collar,, to properly size a collar for your
puppy, be sure you can insert TWO FINGERS on the
smallest adjustment.  I don't approve nor recommend
a choke collar on a young puppy,, but over six months
of age and only during training sessions and class
can you use the choke collar.  You would remove the
traditional collar during those times.

I like the New retractable leashes, they allow the dog
to venture a bit further from their slow walking owners,
and are great when you are walking the dog in your
sox,, and don't want to step on the wet grass.  You
should also purchase a traditional average length (3
ft) lead.  Don't be tacky,, get one that matches your
chosen collar.   Please use BOY colors for the boys,
and GIRLY colors with the bling bling collars for the
girls,, thank you.

If your pups are REAL young, use a harness until the
pup is around 12 to 16 weeks of age,,, OR if the pup
just wants to PROTEST too much about having
something around his neck.   You want to make your
walking trips a Pleasant experience.

TOYS and chews
DO not allow your dog to chew on old soxs or old
shoes,,    as the day will come when you will find
teeth marks on your work shoes or will not be able
to locate your sox needing to be laundered.
I like to provide a fresh rawhide chew bone for my
house dogs,,    If they have been lying around for
over a week,, I replace the soft wet ones,,
Plastic toys are great,, but be sure to wash them
at least once a week,,  you can throw them
directly into the dishwasher along with your dinner
dishes.  Be sure to squeeze out any water that
may have gathered in some plastic giveaways.
When purchasing your rawhide chews please be
aware that some suppliers are not concerned
that  these items may have been treated with
insecticides during the tanning process and for
shipment from other countries.  Question the
salesperson and if they do not know,, DO NOT
purchase it.

Dog Tags
If you don't attach the county dog tag to your dogs'
collar,,, I recommend that you go to PETCO and
make  an ID tag for your puppy to wear at all
times.  Be sure to include your cell phone
numbers and the dog's call name.

Grooming & supplies
Many have asked me what clippers to get.  I still own
my original pair  of OSTER A-5 Golden clippers,, get it
online,, Ebay is great.   You will need 1 or 2 spare #10
replacement blades to use while your others are being
sharpened.

My favorite wire pin brush is manufactured by SAFARI
an oval brush  with steel pins attached via a rubber
backing , finished with an oak wood housing.  I like this
one because the wire pins are strong and firm yet the
tips are rounded off to not scratch the dog when we
are brushing through the coat.  When purchasing a
brush, try it on your own hand.  If it hurts its gonna
hurt to your dog too.

A "GreyHound style of comb to assist in the trimming
procedures and getting through the mats.

Nail trimmers,, I like the RESCOE brand of a guilotine
type of trimmer.    If you plan to use a nail grinder,, be
sure that your puppy's long coat doesn't get caught in
the spinning mechanism.

Thinning shears :  As all of us cocker people have
used over the years,,  the 44/20 brand seems to give
us the finished look.   Although Bryon showed me
some new ones that cut hair like butter,,    at a nice
price tag too...   I don't want to have to sell a puppy
just to get a pair of thinning shears.
